Tool are one of the most important bands in the alternative music scene
today, in my opinion, and also one of the most strangest, unpredictable
bands as well. It's been five long years since Tool last released 'Lateralus'
and now the band are back with their fourth full-length album '10,000
Days'; which is one of the most anticipated releases in a long time.
The first thing you notice about this album is the weird package it comes
in; A pair of glasses attached to the album cover which makes the booklet
inside the album come to life with 3d images. Tool are well known for
their unique album covers and artwork and this is the weirdest but best
by far.
The band havent changed their sound and the album has 11 tracks and clocks
in at 75 minutes 52 seconds, which shows the band have an album full of
seven minutes plus tracks which they are well known for.
As soon as you put press play on this album and first track 'Vicarious'
starts up you can tell Tool have pulled it off again with there unique
sound that nothing else comes close to, Maynard James Keenan's vocals
fit in perfect with the sound of the bands music. The drums on 'Jambi'
are truly stunning as they are throughout the whole album.
Next up is 'Wings For Marie' and '10,000 Days' Originally 'Wings For
Marie' and '10,000 Days' were suppose to be one song but were split into
two to make it more accessible as it would have clocked in at over 17
minutes if it had been one song so has been named 'Wings For Marie (PT
1)' and '10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2)'. This is a very personal and very touching
song with lots of spooky cloudy/thundery sounds being played, once again
Maynards lyrics shine with "It's time now! my time now!, give me
my wings!'.
The vocals for 'The Pot' are stunning and the track starts with "Who
are you, to wave your finger? You must have been out of your head"
which Maynard's vocals sound different than anything I have heard him
sing. This song stands out the most on the album due to the change in
vocals and the pure heavyness of the track. 'Lipan Conjuring' is the shortest
track on the album running at only 1 minute and 13 seconds which has a
spooky sound throughout.
Ok I could carry on going through the album track by track but im going
to stop now but what I will say is that 'Right In Two' is one of the best
tracks on the album starting off really mellow but ending so loud and
heavy.
Overall '10,000 Days' is a brilliant album it's true Tool and fans will
not be disappointed. And like all Tool albums you need to listen to this
again and again before you can appreciate the greatness of it.
5/5
