Hurst-Pierpoint - Blag Us A PintHurst-Pierpoint - Blag Us A Pint

Hurst-Pierpoint are a four piece band from Gillingham in Kent, members of the band were originally in Elvis and Queen tribute bands until they realised it would be better to form their own band and play their own music which saw Hurst-Pierpoint form back in 2005. The band claim they are influenced by Bloc Party, Norah Jones, Moneen, Midtown etc. But I think they sound more like an English New Found Glory or a good match to Guildford pop punks Fastlane.

The band are releasing their debut EP 'Blag Us A Pint' in September, it only has 4 tracks but they are infectious tracks that have been produced really well. The EP opens with 'Under Fire' which has an intro like the opening sequence of a serious movie and soon after the band kick into infectious poppy punk with Simon Gearing's vocals sounding as good as that of most American pop punk bands.

'The Waiting Game' is another infectious song that features a few break downs where the music mellows down and you are left with a duel assault of infectious vocals. The guitar work is fast and furious and the overall song is full of energy. 'Answers' has a long introduction that really showcases this bands ability to play music, the vocals sound more angry here than on the rest of the EP but musically the song is more toned down throughout.

The EP finishes with 'Harlow Holds The Deepest Secrets' and once again the song has a lot going on. The backing vocals fit in well with the main vocals and the production is spot on.

When listening to 'Blag Us A Pint!', it’s hard not to think that you have heard this before because technically you have because Hurst-Pierpoint sound so much like most poppy punk American and any of the English bands who try and sound American such as Fastlane. But if you try and not let that bother you to much you will really enjoy this 4 track offering, it’s not going to bring them mainstream success but it’s going to help gain the band a steady following in the underground scene.
