Who remembers Terrorvision then? The band were together for fourteen years
and were one of the most successful bands of the 1990's with pretty much
the whole country chanting along to Tequila when it was released back
in 1999. Well frontman Tony Wright is now back in the music scene keeping
things underground with his new band Laika Dog.
Laika Dog are a four piece band and I must add they are nothing like Terrorvision
if you are wondering, the bands album 'Mercury' is being released towards
the end of September and their are some great songs on it.
The album opens with 'Getaway', the song is a straight up, short, fast
rock song, Tony's vocals are clear and fast, and the overall music is
fast and upbeat and perfect for jumping around to like a mad person. 'Best
Lurning Curve' is just as fast and catchy as the first track and to be
honest the first time I listened to this album I didn’t even realise
this song had started I still thought it was the first track.
Things take a proper slow approach for 'Forever And A Day', the music
is really laid back and Tony sounds a lot more serious within his vocals.
The greatly named 'Monkey Song' also starts off quite laid back but doesn’t
take too long before it picks up, the song itself is pretty average. 'By
The Time I Got Back Home' is yet another laid back rock song, the song
is okay but doesn’t deliver anything special.
The song that sticks out the most on the album is 'All The Things That
Matter', which starts off with Tony screaming "All The Things That
Matter”, the song is really upbeat and catchy and the kind of song
that will stay in your head for days to come.
There are some great moments on 'Mercury' but their are also some really
average moments, mainly towards the end of the album such as 'David Frost'
and 'Hard to Explain' which are really chilled out songs that don’t
really offer much.
Overall Laika Dog can clearly make good music but their album 'Mercury'
has one truly outstanding song, a couple of good songs and the rest of
the album is just full of fillers. The band are bound to gain a steady
fan base, mainly due to who their frontman is but I really can’t
see 'Mercury' doing anything special for the band.
3/5
