Grace Solero are a four piece band featuring different musicians from
around the world such as Italy, New Zealand, America and Mexico, but the
band have relocated to London to pursue their love of alternative rock
and tour the country many times over. Grace Solero are influenced by many
artists such as Smashing Pumpkins and Skunk Anansie and you can definitely
feel the later influence within Grace Solero's music.
The band have just released their debut full length album 'New Moon'
and it’s not bad at all. The album starts off with 'If U Feel' and
Grace's vocals sound perfect for a female fronted band being both upbeat
and catchy and the instrumental work sounds tight and brings together
the bands overall sound. In 'I Don't' Grace's vocals sound so similar
to Skin from Skunk Anansie in places and then breaks into Grace's own
vocals style for the chorus before returning to more Skin sounding vocals.
'New Place' is musically quite mellow and Grace's vocals start off with
quiet whispers but soon builds up in volume and catchiness.
One of my favourite songs on the album has to be 'Apartheid', it’s
a song how people interact with each other and distance is created between
people. The band have worked together well in this song with some stand
out drumming, good guitar work and the vocals being quite sing a long
sounding at their best. 'Troops' features Grace and Dan Bealaurier sharing
vocal duties, giving us a good mixture of male and female vocals that
to fit together well.
The guitar, bass and drumming on the album sounds quite similar throughout
most of the album but seems to stick out more for 'Stay' where the drumming
is more heavy and more constant and the guitars seem more beefed up here
than on any of the other songs and once again the vocals can’t be
faulted.
Musically Grace Solero are an talented band the lead vocals are strong
and sing a long and sound slightly like Skin from Skunk Anansie and Alanis
Morrisette in places which is a good point from my point of view as both
artists have extremely strong vocals and with Grace's vocals mixed in
with the two it’s a winning combination. Instrumentally the band
are tight and everything sounds like it goes together but the downside
is there is a lack of variety and not much stands out but this is mainly
due to how powerful and standout Grace's voice is. Overall 'New Moon'
is a great debut album and the band have the potential to make a name
for themselves across Europe.
