The Southern California trio Tiger Army have just released their forth
album 'Music From Regions Beyond' the album and is the follow up to the
bands third album 'III: Ghost Tigers Rise' and has been produced by Jerry
Finn who has worked with AFI, Alkaline Trio and many other great punk
bands in the past.
The album opens up with 'Prelude: Signal Return' which is a full on instrumental
track that really gets you into the bands sound. Track 2, 'Hotprowl' is
one of the most impressive tracks on the album, the guitar work is fast
and spot on the drumming is loud and constant and the vocals sound better
than ever. 'Afterworld' see's things slow down a bit but the song still
maintains the albums catchiness. 'Forever Fades Away' is the bands main
single release from 'Music From Regions Beyond' and is a good song that
sounds so similar to AFI, with AFI's Davey Havok providing guest vocals
on the chorus.
The sound of 'Ghosts Of Memory' can’t be faulted, the song is fast
and catchy, the vocals fit in perfect and the song features some great
solo's by bassist Jeff Roffredo and drummer James Meza which adds a nice
variety to the song. 'Pain' is one of the catchiest songs on the album
with Nick 13 once again delivering perfect vocals. 'As Cold Rain Falls'
see's Tiger Army take a totally different approach and is the kind of
song that if you heard it on the radio for the first time you would never
guess it was Tiger Army, but saying that it is a good song I’m just
not sure if it will go down well with the hardcore Tiger Army fans.
Track nine 'Hechizo De Amor' see's the band go Spanish on us with Nick
13 singing the whole song in Spanish, the song is quite interesting and
a song I will find myself listening to over and over again. The album
closes with 'Where The Moss Slowly Grows' which brings a mellow close
to the album.
'Music From Regions Beyond' is an enormously good album and will please
hardcore Tiger Army fans, the band do sound like AFI in a number of songs
on the album but that’s to be expected when Tiger Army frontman
Nick 13 and AFI frontman Davey Havok are best friends, and also with Havok
appearing on over a third of the albums tracks.
4/5
