Prepare for a blast from the past. As back as far as two decades. Yes
that's right kids, The Dragons are hear to blast eighties electro rock
at you. If the Terminator wanted to go to a gig, I reckon he'd seek out
these guys. I just want to put on a sparkly suit and sing "I am electro
boy" like Noel Fielding of the Mighty Boosh, I just can't help myself.
They sound like another band called To My Boy, but they sound like they
came from a time everyone wants to forget, they aren't offering anything
new. And the fact that the second track started and I thought it was the
first one repeating again, says a lot about their music, doesn't it.
So who would enjoy this? Well, fans of the eighties I suppose. Erasure
fans. People with legwarmers. The A-Team. And actually, strangely, it's
the kind of thing I could imagine a Nine Inch Nails fan listening to.
(Someone get back to me on that one.) Sadly, I'm none of those people,
and I wouldn't be lying if I said I was bored stiff. It's all the same.
A painful blend of over-reverbed power drums, retro synth sequences, and
deep whining vocals much like those of Editors.
If I had to choose stand out tracks, I'd say track 7, "Lonely Tonight,"
which you can listen to on their MySpace. Not because they're amazing,
just because they're slightly different and at least begin to hint that
they could possibly sound good. In fairness, this one's quite good actually.
So all in all, disappointing. It's all musical, but it's far from exciting.
2/5
