AFD Shift formed in Lichfield back in March 2006 and have influences ranging
from The Prodigy, The Beatles, Jay Z, Foo Fighters and many more. The
band have been busy in the studio working with producer Gavin Monaghan
recording their debut single 'Crusader'.
'Crusader' is AFD Shift's debut single and to be honest after the first
listen I couldn’t get into this song but after about ten more listens
I’m no closer to getting into this song. The bands sound is electro
dance mixed with hip hop and rock and roll. So just imagine mixing Limp
Bizkit with The Prodigy and Jay Z and what do you get? A hell of a lot
going on and too much to take in and that is exactly what’s happened
with 'Crusader'. The music itself is fast paced and catchy, but the vocals
are too rough and raw for the bands music.
The b-side 'Breathing Space' in my opinion is slightly better than the
actual single and has a little less going on at once making it slightly
easier to get into, the song is quite catchy in places especially when
the backing vocals come in. Also included on the single is a live version
of 'Crusader' but the quality of the song is pretty poor and you need
to turn your stereo up a few extra notches to be able to hear it.
Overall AFD Shift don’t do anything for me, it’s like they
are trying to bring something new to the music scene by cramming as much
as they can in to come up with their own sound but sadly it doesn’t
really work too well.
