The opening track, "The Scheme," seems to combine the vocals
of Thom Yorke with music a little more linear than Radioheads. Gentle
shuffle-like jazzy chords and basslines play underneath the whiny meandering
vocals of Stephen, and this track probably wouldn't sound out of place
on something put together by Zero 7.
Magic, he's completely changed his voice for the second track "Sleep."
This time, more of a cross between Tom McRae and David McCabe of the Zutons.
Singing over a country-like acoustic guitar, this song is actually pretty
darn good.
The third track, "Can This Be?" starts off extremely reminiscent
of Frank Turner (whose album is arguably one of the best British solo
releases of a long time) until the vocals kick in. Not that it detracts
from its' greatness. Another awesome song.
"William Shatner's Dog" finishes off the EP that just reeks
of easy listening. Some really beautiful gentle songs that even the most
pilled up rave-head wouldn't pause.
4/5
