The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are a four pice band hailing from Middleburg,
Florida. The band have already caused a storm in America with their mixed
sound of pop-punk, screamo and metal yet keeping their music poppy and radio
friendly at all times. The bands debut album 'Don't You Fake It' has already
sold over half a million copies in America and the album is now ready to
be released over in the UK.
'Don't You Fake It' is a well produced album with most songs being fast
and furious, metal riffs being thrown in every now and again, pure poppy
vocals with screamo vocals mixed in as well giving the band an altogether
amazing sound where everything sounds very unpredictable yet everythings
so spot on on most songs.
'In Fate's Hand' opens the album and starts off with a big punk introduction
full of power chords and constant standout drumming, the twin vocals come
in with the main vocals being quite listenable and sing a long, then more
screamo vocals coming in shortly after. The song also features lots of
backing vocal chants of "hey hey hey" giving the song a anthemic
feeling. 'Waiting' is more of a mellowed down poppy punk song that features
some good guitar riffs and more chanting backing vocals.
The bands first single 'Face Down' is a song about guys violating girls
which is lyrically well written, but the song is a lot more radio freindly
than the rest of the songs on the album
'Cat And Mouse' see's the band go really soft with a piano piece running
throughout the whole song which sounds really goood but the piano overshines
the vocals and the vocals sadly seem a bit out of place. 'Damn Regret'
starts off with some great guitar riffs and is an upbeat sing a long song.
'Atrophy' is one of the most heaviest songs on the album with some huge
riffs, big vocals and a more punk sound.
The album closes with the acoustic sound of 'Your Guardian Angel' which
is a love song that tries and expresses what it really feels like to be
in love, the vocals are gentle and soft and is a song you are either going
to love or hate.
Overall The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are a talented band mixing a lot of
different musical styles together, they really shine on the heavier sounding
songs but there is far to many poppy sounding songs on the album, some
sound good but some sound like they are there just to make up the numbers
for a full length album.
3.5/5
