When Hot Water Music split up back in May 2006 George, Jason and Chris moved
on and formed a band called The Draft who released their debut album 'In
A Million Pieces' towards the end of 2006. Whilst Chuck Ragan decided to
concentrate on married life and spending most of his day cutting wood and
doing contracting work. Chuck Ragan has also found some spare time to do
what he enjoys most and work on his own solo acoustic material.
Chuck Ragan's debut studio album wont be released until towards the end
of 2007 but in the meantime he is releasing a 12 track live album which
was recorded live on February 19th in Los Feliz, California where Ragan
is joined by Ted Hutt on mandolin and Jon Gaunt on fiddle whilst Ragans
strong instantly recognizable vocals and acoustic guitar take centre spot.
'Open Up and Wail' opens up with Chuck Ragan talking to the crowd and
soon after strumming on his acoustic guitar with his rough yet stunning
vocals fitting in perfect with his newly found acoustic style of music.
Chuck Ragan puts full energy in singing loud and strong with cheers and
claps from the crowd applauding the final moments of the song.
'The Boat' is one of the strongest songs on the album with its eerie
ballad sound with Chuck Ragan putting everything into the song with his
vocals sounding better than ever. 'Do You Pray' is the first track that
features Ted Hutt on mandolin and Jon Gaunt on fiddle helping Ragan out
giving the song a bit of a Irish sound making up a really sing a long
song. 'Valentine' is another song featuring Ted and Jon and is another
impressive song. 'Congratulations Joe' sees Ragan taking centre spot again
with just his vocals and acoustic guitar and is a song about his retired
father in law.
Chuck Ragan has one of the roughest yet loveable voice's ever which sounds
better than ever on the love song 'Symmetry' which Ragan dedicates to
his wife.
I have always loved acoustic music and it’s even better when its
captured live and full of energy with the band interacting with the crowd
and vice versa and Chuck Ragan has achieved just that with 'Los Feliz'
and seems to be enjoying what he does now.
