Blink 182 released their ‘California’ album back in 2016 and since then they have been pretty busy touring all over the world and finally settled down for a bit of a break towards the end of 2018 when Matt Skiba regrouped with Dan Andriano and Derek Grant from Alkaline Trio to release their surprise ninth album ‘Is This Thing Cursed?’ which went down a storm with the media and also the bands fans.
Over recent months there has been a lot of talk from Mark Hoppus and producer John Fieldman that Blink 182 were back at work on new material but I never in a million years expected new music to drop so quick, especially when the band have only had a short break from their ‘California’ world tour and the Alkaline Trio album ‘Is This Thing Cursed?’ is still such a fresh new release which hasn’t fully been toured, but Blink 182 have just dropped their brand new single ‘Blame It On My Youth’, have announced an American tour and hinted at a massive European tour for 2020.
‘Blame It On My Youth’ is a fist pumping pop-punk anthem which is bound to go down a storm on the live circuit, it’s an exciting fun and edgy song with a bit of an experimental feel as it’s so different from anything Blink 182 have put out before, if you are expecting something similar to material from the bands ‘Enema Of the State’ or ‘Take Your Pants Off And Jacket’ era then you will be disappointed but if you enjoyed the direction Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and Matt Skiba went on their 2016 ‘California’ album then I am sure this will be right up your street.
There is no news on when the new Blink 182 album will drop but the fact then have been working with john Fieldman for many months and the fact they have announced an American tour with Lil Wayne and Neck Deep and that the band are also due to appear at the Warped Tour’s 25th anniversary shows this summer indicates at a summer/fall 2019 release.
On the back of ‘Blame It On My Youth’ the forthcoming Blink 182 album is going to be well worth the wait.
