Holy Grail - Times of Pride and Peril
Holy Grail - Times of Pride and Peril

Saw these guys on a headline tour quite a few years ago because I was obsessed with the support band for that tour Revoker (who I’ve not seen or heard from since not that it bugs me or anything), when I was under the impression they were your run of the mill thrash/ heavy metal act (not to belittle the genre because I love thrash but there are a lot of very similar sounding bands under that catagory) I can’t say that I was particularly excited. My opinion was changed by the end of the night which brings us to earlier this year when I was perusing metal hammer at my own leisure, I happened across an advert for this very album so naturally I got me a copy and here we are.

As soon as I hit play on “Crystal King” I knew I was in for quite the wild ride; high pitch vocals, high octane riffs and beats, catchy vocal lines. This kind of music is something I can really get behind because it’s not elaborate nor groundbreaking just a fresh take on a blend of old school styles, “Apothoeis” is my favourite song on this record because of how catchy it is. They’ve really pushed the boundaries with this one a hit new levels by incorporating elements of doom, sludge and stoner metal into their sound using it to give something fresh.

If those classic genres of metal are what you’re all about then I would definitely recommend these guys to you! It takes nothing away but to quality of tone and the general structure offer much more to a modern day classic metal fan, I’ll leave that up to you and take my leave!
