Album number 5 from the Pantera/Mudvayne supergroup; album number one I loved, number two was great too, number 3 I found generally lacking and number 4 just slipped through the net and I still haven’t listened to it, now this. 2016 marks a decade since the band got together back in 2006 so the likelihood is they’ve gone all out to mark the occasion.
Now seeing as I was starting to go off the band in recent years I wasn’t going into this review with positive thoughts, and after the first listen I really was looking at it negatively, the next couple of times though all of that washed away and I can safely say this is now my new favorite album of theirs. “Grave” dark and angry, “STARTARIOT” energetic and addictive, “Leap of Faith” proving they can still be a heavy band and still nail a lighter song, “Love Falls” is a very sinister ballad which is just superb.
I must say that Hellyeah have done well in my opinion to come back from the brink of death. The only positive I could think of for them falling would have been a possible Mudvayne reunion but judging on how well crafted this bad boy is I can say that’s further away now than ever. Well played lads, well played.
4/5
