Klay - Invitation To An AccidentKlay -Iinvitation To An Accident

Klay are a four-piece band from south west England and with influences from Biffy Clyro, Mogwai and a few other bands. Klay describe their music as their own brand of experimental rock with dynamic and epic songs. The bands debut album 'Invitation To An Accident' have just been finished and is due to be released in early May.

'Solutions' opens the album and you can tell from the start that this band like to write long unpredictable songs with breakdowns all over the place. Track two, 'The Pulse' runs at over 6 minutes long with beautiful guitar work that never seems to want to end but changes in styles throughout and vocals coming and going when you don’t expect them.

Most of the album seems pretty unpredictable with long guitar playing that changes in styles just as you are enjoying it and lots of mellow moments which turn to an assault of drums and guitars in seconds which makes Klay quite different and exciting because you just don’t know what’s going to happen next.

The nearest we come to a catchy song is 'Day One/Day Four' which starts off really catchy with sing a long vocals and interesting guitar and bass playing, but half way through, things suddenly change to raw hardcore vocals and more hectic instrument playing before changing back down to the mellow sound from the start of the song.

The instrumental track 'Swans Reflecting' gets a bit irritating with a constant dinging sound and guitars that stops and start every now and again. From this moment the album seems to go downhill with 'Ava' starting with a similar dinging sound, which also runs throughout the whole song and seems to stay in my head until the album finishes with 'So Long The Ideal’, which is an extremely long experimental instrumental track.

Overall Klay have achieved what they wanted to achieve in the way that they have produced a totally unpredictable experimental rock album. It has its good moments but it also has its bad moments and wont appeal to everyone.
