Here we have the debut album from Melbourne based songstress Vanessa Eve
and her 3-piece punk rock outfit Jaed. This is an album I have been looking
forward to since hearing debut single "Catherine"; and it doesnt
fail to impress.
"Dirty Days" focuses on the struggles of a young women who
was forced out of her home by an abusive father and left to live on the
streets of Melbourne, and other life struggles.
The album starts off with debut single "Catherine" which is
a fast 47 second long, poppy-punk track about an un-loved acquaintance.
Second track "My Way" is a song about life on the streets and
the hold heroin had over Vanessa.
We see a different side to Jaed's music in "Scream" which is
a really mellow track and good at that. It still manages to deal with
negative issues, this time about being abused by someone you trust. "Dream
Hair" is another mellow song with meaningful lyrics about getting
back on track. "Someday" picks the pace up again and is a powerful
track about having to believe in yourself because no one else does.
My favourite track on the album is the last track "Sleeping Beauty"
as Vanessa's voice totaly shines.
Overall, this album is amazing and full of attitude. The lyrics are of
personal life issues and the sound is of a punk background, with a few
mellow moments thrown in for good measure. Definitely worth investing
in.
