Lacuna Coil – Delirium
Lacuna Coil – Delirium

Back in 2014 a few weeks before they were due to release their seventh studio album ‘Broken Crown Halo’ Lacuna Coil announced that guitarist Cristiano ‘Pizza’ Migliore and drummer Cristiano ‘Criz’ Mozzati were retiring from the band after 16 solid years, this came to as a shock to the fans but the show had to go on and Lacuna Coil released the album and followed it up with a lengthy world tour before guitarist Marco ‘Maus’ Biazzi also announced he was leaving the band.

It has now been just over two years since the release of ‘Broken Crown Halo’ and Lacuna Coil are back with their eighth studio album ‘Delirium’ which also happens to be their first studio album since the major line-up changes and if you have heard ‘The House Of Shame’, ‘Delirium’ and ‘Ghost In The Mist’ which happen to be the three tracks Lacuna Coil have previewed from ‘Delirium’ so far then you will instantly know that Lacuna Coil have changed and have come back bigger, stronger and angrier than ever before.

It is easy to see why Lacuna Coil have called their latest album ‘Delirium’ as the band themselves have been on a rollercoaster ride over the past couple of years with the various different line-up changes and various other reasons which the band may or may not discuss at some point in the future but also musically the album is heavier and a lot different than anything the band have done before.

The album opens with ‘The House Of Shame’ a full on track which gives your ears a battering in such a positive way as the band turn their instruments up a couple of extra notches with huge drum beats and guitar riffs taking over whilst vocalists Andrea Ferro and Cristina Scabbia come across more focused than ever with Andrea Ferro letting out a lot of pent up anger and Cristina Scabbia doing what she does best unleashing her classical sounding vocals in such a beautiful way.

‘Broken Things’ follows on nicely from ‘The House OF Shame’ and carries on the heaviness with Andrea Ferro opening things up with his raw shouts, and like true Lacuna Coil style within seconds you are taken on a beautiful journey with Andrea Ferro and Cristina Scabbia taking it in turns to take over the airwaves with their impressive vocals which perfectly complement each other.

The album title track ‘Delirium’ is the only track on the album that sounds anything near classic Lacuna Coil material and it is such a melodic sing-a-long anthem which sounds better and better after each and every listen.

‘Blood, Tears, Dust’ is a completely bonkers track full of electronic synths and pure aggression as Andrea Ferro carries on his angry assault, the song also features an impressive guitar solo from new guitarist Diego Cavllotti.

‘Take Me Home’ reminds me of Korn in the way that the song opens with a nursery rhyme before Andrea Ferro shouts out “Take me for a ride”. ‘You Love Me ‘Cause I Hate You’ see’s things slow down for a bit as Cristina Scabbia sings her heart out. Whilst ‘Ghost In The Mist’ is a masterpiece combining the melodic moments of classic Lacuna Coil with the aggressive sounds of newer Lacuna Coil.

The last two Lacuna Coil albums ‘Dark Adrenaline’ and ‘Broken Crown Halo’ were really enjoyable listens yet lacked the lastability for many listeners yet with ‘Delirium’ Lacuna Coil have created one of the most important albums of their career and it is safe to say that the massive line-up changes over the past year or so may have seemed daunting at the time but has gave Lacuna Coil a new lease of life and I am sure they are going to gain a whole new fan base once the album drops at the end of the month.
