American Hi-Fi came back and released their fourth studio album 'Blood And Lemonade' back in 2014 on Rude Records and now nearly two years later the band have decided to revisit their self-titled debut album and re-record and re-release it in acoustic format on Rude Records and it seems that the timing could not be more perfect as it marks 15 years of the band and also happens to be the 15th anniversary of the album and to mark the occasion the band headed back into Sunset Sound studio in Hollywood just like they did 15 years ago.
If you grew up in the late 90's or early 00's then I am sure that American Hi-Fi provided the soundtrack to your teen years as there was no escaping their catchy poppy-punk sounds with songs like 'Flavour Of The Weak', 'Another Perfect Day' taking the charts by storm whilst also popping up in major Hollywood teen comedy movies such as American Pie.
The album 'American Hi-Fi' was an instant hit when originally released 15 years ago so it's good to see that the band have decided to re-work the album in acoustic format even more so because I am a total sucker for acoustic music especially coming so many years after the full on rifftastic rock-pop-punk album.
Some of the songs on the album have been completed re-worked with different arrangements whilst other stay true to the original but just have the smooth transit from straight up rocking guitars to beautiful acoustic sounds and melodies.
The likes of 'Flavour Of The Weak and 'I'm A Fool' sound more beautiful and sing-a-long as ever in acoustic format whilst 'Hi Fi Killer' is catchy yet very raw vocally in places as front man Stacy Jones shouts along, whilst 'Another Perfect Day' not only lives up to the original version of the song it totally excels as Stacy Jones and Kay Hanley give it their all.
If you are a hardcore American Hi-Fi fan then there is no question about it you need this album in your collection and if you are new to all things American Hi-Fi then this really is the perfect starting point as the band play out some of their best songs in such an uplifting beautiful way.
