Back in 2005 in Birmingham a new four piece band called Governors Of California
were born and two years later the band signed to Lockjaw Records and finished
their debut six track mini-album 'Pressure Points' which features some great
cover art with two men sat on a chair one dressed as a Zebra and the other
dressed as a Deer and the various pressure points listed across their bodies.
The bands mini album starts off with the title track 'Pressure Points'
which happens to be the best track on the mini album and is a song that
has a really interesting mixture of sound with so much going at once and
great mixture of squeaky and more screamy vocals. 'Destroy Something Beautiful’
is quite a fast catchy song with really good sing a long vocals. The closing
track of the mini album 'I.C.' finishes the cd mini album off nicely and
is filled with great breakdowns when you just wouldn’t expect them.
Every song on the mini album is pretty good and the band have got themselves
a really good sound that is full of energy, stand out vocals and hooks
that your not going to forget in a hurry, it’s just a shame they
could only manage a six track release rather than a full album. The Governors
Of California are defiantly a band worth checking out and should be around
for a long time to come if they carry on creating songs as good as what’s
on offer here.
3.5/5
