Hacktivist - Outside The Box

Was browsing the Internet when I happened to come across this band, name seemed to ring a bell so I thought I’d investigate. Turns out their members contained ex Heart of a Coward members and I do love me some HOAC so that tickled my interest, then I noticed the words Rap and Metal in the description. So bands like Hollywood Undead and Body Count jump to the forefront of my mind, that sold it so I thought I’d better check them out.

Now musically speaking the metal part was spot on as it was deep, heavy and bassy so there I can’t have any complaints. It’s the singing that kills it for me; I’m not massively into rap as it is but I love Eminem, Dr Dre and Snoop, but what these guys are trying to do is combine that with a drop dead heavy accompaniment and I hate to say it (because I really was excited to listen to this album expecting it to be my new favorite) but it really isn’t for me. To all the hardcore friends I have out there who like a broad range of elements providing something new and distinctive this is for you. But apart from a few of the tracks I can kinda get into, this just feels like 2 genres being forced together that just don’t fit.

I have to admit I was very disappointed because I’d really hyped it up for myself to be something it wasn’t, I implore anyone who likes really dirty metal and a love of rap please check this out and let me know what you think, but for me? Not my cup of tea.
