Mini Album Review

Sikth - OpacitiesSikth - Opacities

It was a tremendous day for metal heads nationwide the the day that Sikth decided they were lacing their boots and stepping back in the ring, a tremendous day indeed! This Ep marks the first release of new tunes since 2006! Cannot believe it's been that long.

We shall brush aside "Tokyo Lights" which I still cannot seem to wrap my head around, and dive straight into the other 5 tracks. One of my favourites being "Philistine Philosophies" which, much like the other tracks has what you'd expect from progressive metal as a base, unique gritty vocals spliced alongside ominous cleans, chunky riffs, generally a swirling concoction of everything that has ever made Sikth who they are.

Sure it's a "mini album" but when that expands to a total length nearly hitting the 30 minute mark there's plenty for fans to enjoy, the time they've been away is amazing too because this just pushes back as though they were never gone even though since their time away many others have been and gone or tried and failed. The fact they've waltzed back in here, with a beast of a record like they've never missed a step and pulled it off is phenomenal, fair play! Now go get it.
