The Crimson Star have been making a name for themselves
for quite some time now in the West Midlands,
they released their debut EP ‘New Road’
last year and it was met with rave reviews from
various different publications and now the band
are back with their second EP ‘No Ordinary
Love’ which was recorded at Studio [B] in
Kingswinford back in May with Christopher Piper
on production duties.
The EP opens with the title track ‘No Ordinary
Love’ a song which turns out to be a big
instrumental driven technical number which really
shows off how talented this four piece really
are as the instrumental work they belt out wouldn’t
sound too out of place on an Led Zeppelin, Them
Crooked Vultures or Queens Of The Stone Age album
especially the epic guitar solo which takes place
towards the end of the album.
‘Coercion’ opens with a short slowed
paced guitar piece and then suddenly out of know
where some of the tastiest basslines and guitar
riffs I have heard for some time comes in along
with some banging drum beats as the band go on
a nice little journey which happens to be so sweet
on the ears as James Shaw sings his heart out
in a rocking way.
The EP comes to a close with ‘A Darker Shade’
which happens to be the most upbeat track on the
EP which also has a slight punk rock attitude
and edge as the band rock their way through the
track with James Shaw shouting, as the track progresses
there is an epic guitar solo in place and also
some of the most pounding drum beats you have
ever heard from these guys.
Overall ‘No Ordinary Love’ is a fantastic
EP from Crimson Star it truly shows off their
amazing song writing skills and equally their
performance skills as the EP has the quality’s
of a band who have been together for many years
and I personally can’t wait to hear the
band unleash these songs on the live circuit as
I can imagine there will be a lot of head banging
and moshing on show when they do.
