Earlier in the year American Hi-Fi came out of
hiatus to play a sold out show at the 100 Club
in London and to coincide with the show they instantly
released their comeback single ‘Alison’
and also released details of ‘Blood And
Lemonade’ which happens to be their first
studio album in nearly 5 years and now the album
is officially here but has it been worth the wait.
Considering that American Hi-Fi first started
off on the music scene way back in 1998 and have
released four studio albums in that time and are
now back with their fifth studio album ‘Blood
And Lemonade’ it seems that they have kept
with the every changing times of the music industry
and come back with an album which is pretty damn
exciting and extremely relevant.
Things open up with ‘Armageddon Day’
a song which has a strong instrumental introduction
with tinny drum beats and guitars slowly charging
up and when the song fully gets going Stacy Jones
treats us to some of the finest vocals he has
every laid down within his music career setting
the pace nicely for the next 30minutes.
Recent single ‘Golden State’ is up
next and the songs a classic, it had that big
catchy radio friendly feel to it where the chorus
flows ever so smoothly but that’s not to
say that the song doesn’t feature rocking
elements as there are some huge guitar riffs in
place and some wonderful breakdowns which show
off a great side to the newly reformed American
Hi-Fi.
Despite the name ‘Coma’ is actually
quite an upbeat song, especially when the infectious
chorus kicks in and you start singing-a-long with
Stacy Jones. ‘Wake Me’ up features
some of the best instrumental work on the album
with killer riffs after killer riff being executed.
Come back single ‘Alison’ still sounds
as fresh and relevant now as it did when it was
originally released back towards the start of
the year. ‘Amnesia’ is a huge rock
‘n roll song which you will find yourself
listening to again and again.
‘Carry The Sorrow’ shakes things up
a bit thanks to its more spoken word introduction
and the way that Stacey Jones is left in peace
to let his vocals flow with the drums and guitars
building up around at around the 20seconds mark
fully bringing the song to life in a big infectious
way.
The album comes to an end with ‘No Ordinary
Life’ a song which see’s American
Hi-Fi slow things down and go down a more serious
route, the song also happens to be the longest
running song on the album just breaking into the
4minute mark and finishes the album off in style
especially when it starts to build up towards
the end.
With ‘Blood And Lemonade’ American
Hi-FI have proved that they still have it and
have managed to create a solid sounding 10 track
album, where the riffs are big, the chorus are
huge and the big rock meets pop vibe that the
band have always had is still there, if you liked
the band back in the day then I am sure that you
will find a lot of enjoyment in ‘Blood And
Lemonade’.
