Slipknot - The Negative OneSlipknot – The Negative One

It has been a long time coming but Slipknot have just unleashed their brand new song ‘The Negative One’ which happens to be their first song in over 6 years and it is a fast paced heavy number which sounds equally as brutal as anything from the bands ‘Iowa’ era and has sent the internet into melt down as with Twitter, Facebook, forums featuring heavy discussions on the Iowa metal gods.

The past couple of years have been really tough for Slipknot as they have gone on to play some of their best shows ever headlining festivals across the world; they were then hit by the shock death of Paul Gray in May 2010 and then went on to headline the Sonisphere Festival in 2011 where they played the most emotional show I have ever witnessed and also paid respect to Paul Gray in the best way possible, since then Slipknot went on to headline the Download Festival in 2013 and then everything went dark in the Slipknot camp as they headed into the studio to work on their fifth studio album and then in December news broke that Joey Jordison had departed the band which lead many people thinking that Slipknot were on the verge of splitting up, however after weeks of mini teaser videos Slipknot are back as good as ever.

‘The Negative One’ really is a beast of a song which happens to be bigger and better sounding than what I was expecting, the song opens with Sid Wilson creating some immense sounds on the turn tables before the guitar riffs come in with an almighty force and solid drumming and percussion which has always been a strong point for Slipknot, vocally Corey Taylor is on top form mixing up his clear vocals with brutal screams which easily reach the brutal screams and shouts that were featured on the ‘Iowa’ album, the song runs well into the 5minute mark and pleases for each and every second it runs.

It may not be the best song that Slipknot have ever created but I can guarantee that ‘The Negative One’ is going to go down in history as the most important song that Slipknot have ever created and released as after the mad rollercoaster ride they have had over the past couple of years they needed to prove to themselves, their fans and the critics that they still have what it takes to be one of the best metal bands in the world and that they have proved and I am sure million s of maggots around the world are impatiently waiting more details on album number 5 and Slipknot tour dates.

It is safe to say that 2014 is an very exciting time to be a metal fan as the return of Slipknot is going to help bring metal music to the mainstream all over again and I personally can’t fucking wait.

5/5
