From Autumn To Ashes are back with their fourth full length studio album
'Holding A Wolf By The Ears' and from the angry screams that kick off the
album on 'Deth Kult Social Club' you can tell things have changed and the
band are angrier than ever and there is a good reason behind the change
in direction and sound.
Shortly after the release of the bands third full length studio album
'Abandon Your Friends', FATA went on a 5-month hiatus and regrouped back
in 2006 to take part in the Wapred Tour that summer which saw the band
soon start work on 'Holding A Wolf By The Ears' and just as they were
about to enter the studio vocalist, Benjamin Perri announced he was leaving
the band due to losing his passion for music, which left FATA in a hole
on the evening of going into the studio. FATA were then left to make their
most difficult decision ever and decided to carry on as a band with drummer
Francis Mark stepping up from behind the drums and taking over lead vocals.
When you listen to 'Holding A Wolf By The Ears' you get the feeling that
it’s a whole new band and not just another FATA album release mainly
due to the sheer angry screams coming from Francis Marks mouth. As mentioned
previously 'Deth Kult Social Club' is a pure angry affair with really
raw angry screams showcasing the new direction FATA have taken. 'On the
Offensive' starts off with an assault of heavy drumming and heavy screams
but features a more melodic chorus showing that the band still vocally
have a soft side in places. 'Recounts and Recollections' is another angry
song with a melodic chorus that breaks the song down a bit.
The introduction of 'Daylight Slaving' will turn a few heads as it’s
the first song on the album that doesn’t start with heavy screams
and drumming but has more of a catchy vibe about it and will be the standout
track to most people due to this. 'Love It Or Left It' is a stunning song
that starts with heavy, constant, metal style drumming and guitar sounds
like a siren is going off, the vocals are more sing a long but do break
into hardcore screams midway. The album finishes with 'Pioneers', a song
that is full of a mixture of sing a long and screamo vocals closing the
album in a catchy way.
The departure of Benjamin Perri has been the saddest yet best thing that
has ever happened to From Autumn To Ashes as the band have never sounded
so good. The guitars are spot on the drumming and vocals are heavier than
ever, and there is not many bands who can survive with the departure of
their lead singer let alone better themselves. Let’s just hope the
fans like the new direction FATA have taken.
