Saliva have had a good career on the alternative
music scene releasing an new album every couple
of years and following it up with constant touring
across the world however in 2011 Josey Scott announced
his departure from the band and everyone thought
that Saliva were dead and buried and couldn’t
carry on without Josey Scott the man who has fronted
the band since the very beginning however Bobby
Amaru joined the band in 2012 and took on vocal
duties and judging by the high quality of the
bands brand new studio album ‘Rise Up’
the departure of Josey Scott has not damaged the
band at all but has in fact made the band more
passionate and rocking than ever before.
As soon as Bobby Amaru joined Saliva the band
hit the road and instantly Bobby Amaru became
a hit with the band and their fans and his influence
on the band can clearly be seen in their new album
‘Rise Up’ as the opening three tracks
‘Rise Up’, ‘She Can Sure Hide
Crazy’ and ‘No One But Me’ kick
off the album in a huge heavy way as the band
lay down three solid rock anthems that are as
infectious as they are rocking, take ‘Rise
Up’ for example the shout-a-long chorus
is head pounding whilst the general flow of ‘She
Can sure Hide Crazy’ is fast and infectious
giving off a big radio friendly future single
vibe, whilst ‘No One But Me’ see’s
the band go deep and dark with chugging riffs
and during each of these songs Bobby Amaru seriously
nails it with his vocals as he shows off different
styles throughout each song.
‘Lost’ see’s the band tone things
down a bit as they go down the mid-tempo route
and once again it gives Bobby Amaru the perfect
opportunity to shine and that is exactly what
he does and so does Wayne Swinny with his guitar
work especially the solo towards the later part
of the song.
‘Redneck Freakshow’ is a massive anthem
where each and every band member shine, Bobby
Amaru lets rip with some chant-a-long style vocals
whilst Wayne Swinny lays down some beefy riffs,
Dave Novotny shows off with some funky basslines
yet it is Paul Crosby who shines through the most
with some of the best drumming that the album
has to offer, seriously he gives it his all here
and creates some massive sounds.
If you thought the opening of the album was strong
then you are going to love the last couple of
tracks as both ‘In It To Win It’ and
‘I Don’t Want It’ are massive
anthems which pack almighty punches with the ‘I
Don’t Want It’ just topping ‘In
It To Win It’ due to the amazing guitar
solos from Wayne Swinny and the general fist in
the air vibe of the song.
Since the release of 2007’s ‘Blood
Stained Love Story’ Saliva started to slip
away from the huge rock n’ roll sounds they
had always been about and it seems that the shakeup
with Josey Scott leaving the band and Bobby Amaru
joining the band has helped reinvent Silvia as
the big infectious rock n’ roll band they
first started out as ‘Rise Up’ is
easily one of the best albums of the bands career
if not the best and the hard core fans are going
to love it and I am sure that the band are going
to pick up a whole new wave of fans once the album
is unleashed next week.
