Back in October 2013 Seether released their greatest
hits album titled ‘Seether 2002 –
2013’ the album was a double album release
and featured 15 classic Seether singles from throughout
the years as well as 3 brand new songs, various
b-sides, demos and other rarities and now 7 months
on Seether are back with their sixth studio album
‘Isolate And Medicate’ which happens
to be another solid album release from these South
African rockers.
‘Isolate And Medicate’ stays true
to everything that Seether have done since they
formed back in 2002 and you will see for yourself
as soon as the grove-tastic opening bass line
on ‘See You At The Bottom’ comes through
your speakers and then moments later Shaun Morgan
comes in with his unique vocals as Seether and
twist and turn their way through yet another solid
grunge rock number.
‘Same Damn Life’ is easily one of
the stand out tracks on the album as it is so
damn catchy, has a slight retro feel and features
some amazing falsetto vocals alongside the more
rocking vocals we have all come to know and love
from front man Shaun Morgan.
‘Words And Weapons’ is the lead single
to be taken from the album and it really see’s
Seether go for it as instrumentally the song has
a lot going for it with top notch drumming, big
guitar riffs but the standout moment of the song
comes when the chorus kicks in and the band go
down a slight melodic route which is full of energy.
With Seether you pretty much know what you are
going to get when you listen to their albums as
they have always kept to the same formula but
that is not to say that every song sounds the
same as Seether do have the knack of mixing things
up from time to time and that is exactly what
they have done with ‘Isolate And Medicate’
as one minute you will be listening to the riff-tastic
‘My Disaster’ and then the next you
will be listening to the ever so emotional ‘Crash’
where Shaun Morgan really goes all out with his
vocals and then the next you will find yourself
listening to the banging ‘Suffer It All’
which simple features some of the best and heaviest
instrumental work on the album and then you will
find yourself listening to the fast paced and
repetitive ‘Watch Me Drown’.
The album comes to a close with the emotional,
slow paced, acoustic ‘Save Today’,
the song runs for 4minutes and 47seconds and is
such a beautiful number which builds up over time
and by the end of the song Shaun Morgan is in
full flow laying down some meaningful energetic
vocals whilst the electric guitar lets out some
distortion.
It’s great to see after six albums Seether
are still doing what they do best and with the
release of ‘Isolate And Medicate’
they have another 10 solid songs under their belts
and they will be back in the UK in November to
no doubt play songs from these album plus all
the fan favourites.
