A couple of months ago Suburban Legends released
the video for their song ‘Kiss The Girl’
and straight away I was hooked on the song due
to the way that they managed to make a fun Disney
song sound bigger, better, faster and generally
more awesome than the original and now the band
are set to release their new 6 track EP ‘Dreams
Aren’t Real But These Songs Are’ on
Monday.
‘Dreams Aren’t Real But These Songs
Are’ is an extremely fun release and see’s
Suburban Legends cover 6 classic Disney songs
in their well known and loved ska-punk way and
features the likes of ‘A Dream Is A Wish’
from Cinderella, ‘You’ve Got A Friend
In Me’ from Toy Story, ‘Kiss The Girl’
from The Little Mermaid, ‘Ducktales’
from Ducktales, ‘Beauty And The Beast’
from Beauty And The Beast and ‘Colors Of
The Wind’ from Pocahontas.
The EP opens with ‘A Dream Is A Wish’
from Cinderella it starts off quite slow paced
with the sounds of twitting birds and other goodness
that you would expect from a Disney styled song,
as the song progresses and the band let rip with
the horn section things become more upbeat and
more like an true Suburban Legends dance floor
anthem as they really do pack some major speed
and style into the song.
The cover of ‘Ducktales’ remains true
to the original with the Suburban Legends going
all out adding a little bit more passion and energy
to the song with Vincent Walker really nailing
the song with his strong vocals. ‘Kiss The
Girl’ is the bands current single and it
is amazing how they have reinvented this Disney
classic in a big fun way full of brass instruments.
‘Beauty And The Beast’ is the weakest
track on the EP but it does the song and film
proud as the Vincent Walker slowly sings his heart
out. Just like the previous track ‘Colors
Of The Wind’is very average sounding but
when things get fast towards the end of the song
you just know that Suburban Legends have turned
this Disney track into a skanking anthem. The
EP closes on a high with ‘You’ve Got
A Friend In Me’ which is so much better
than the original as the band really up their
game and go all out in playing their instruments
as fast as they can and it just brings much needed
excitement to the classic Toy Story song.
If you are a fan of punk, ska or Disney then it
is a no brainer you need this EP in your collection
as the Suburban Legends have done well to make
the majority of these Disney classics more fun
than the original.
