I have always been a big lover of the music of
Dashboard Confessional and it is mainly down to
how simple yet big and beautiful their songs were
and also due to the passionate vocal performance
that Chris Carrabba gives throughout pretty much
every song, the band released their sixth studio
album ‘Alter The Ending’ back in 2009
and since then things have been pretty silent
on the Dashboard Confessional front and now I
understand why after finding out that Chris Carrabba
has formed a new band titled Twin Forks and I
only found that out a couple of days ago when
I was listening to Dashboard Confessional’s
‘Dusk And Summer’ album on my Ipod
and decided to Google the band to see if they
had any new music on the horizon and within seconds
I was listening to the extremely catchy ‘Cross
My Mind’ by Twin Forks.
Twin Forks are made up of Chris Carrabba (vocals,
guitar), Suzie Zeldin (vocals, mandolin), Ben
Homola (drums) and Jonathan Clark (bass) and anyone
who has been a fan of the music of Chris Carrabba
in the past will instantly find joy within the
music of Twin Forks as it is just as emotionally
charged as his previous projects yet this time
around things are more country and folk influenced
yet just as much of an joy to listen to.
The self titled album opens with the super catchy
‘Can’t Be Broken’ and within
moments you are left wondering if you have accidentally
put on a Mumford And Sons record but instead of
Marcus Mumford vocally gracing the airwaves you
have Chris Carrabba sounding the best he has sounded
in years as his stand out vocals really take centre
stage and as the song get’s going the band
really go for it with their folk rock instrumental
work which is fast as hell and catchier than the
common cold.
The opening moments of current single ‘Cross
My Mind’ are seriously the most upbeat moments
I have heard in a song in a very long time, the
song comes at you sounding like a summer anthem
despite it not even being spring yet, the song
is instantly going to become a fan favourite and
a song which I can’t see people getting
bored off in the near future, the song is super
radio friendly and one that should be blasting
out through the speakers of work places across
the country as I know for sure the sheer upbeatness
and fast pace feeling of the song would beat any
work day blues and brighten up anyone’s
day.
The likes of ‘Kiss Me Darling’, ‘Back
To You’, ‘Scraping Up The Pieces’,
Something We Just Know’ and ‘Come
On’ are big upbeat gems whilst ‘Danger’
will instantly remind you of the Dashboard Confessional
days, whilst ‘Reasoned And Roughened’,
‘Done Is Done’ and album closer ‘Who’s
Looking Out’ show off a more mature and
laid back side of the band.
Chris Carrabba has always been a great song writer
and I really feel that with the help of his fellow
musicians in Twin Forks he has recently created
some of the best songs of his career whilst also
laying down nearly the best vocal performances
of his career however I very much doubt he will
ever be able to top the vocal excellence of ‘Vindicated’
which currently remains one of my favourite songs
ever.
If this album is anything to go by then Twin Forks
have a very bright future, the band have already
had to postpone their UK tour due to an unexpected
extended run of dates in America but I would imagine
as soon as Twin Forks reschedule the UK shows
they will be at bigger and better venues as now
the album is out, positive words of Twin Forks
is going to spread pretty quickly.
5/5
