Daughtry - BaptizedDaughtry – Baptized

Chris Daughtry found success when he made it through to the final of the fifth season of American Idol and since then he has gone on to form the band Daughtry who have gone on to release four studio albums with their latest ‘Baptized’ being released back in November and with an UK tour imminent we have decided to have a look at the album now.

When Daughtry first blasted on the scene they instantly reminded me of Nickleback with the way that their songs were big catchy stadium rock anthems with a slight easy listening appeal and it is no wonder that over the years Daughtry have found themselves on the road touring alongside Nickleback, Puddle Of Mudd, Bon Jovi and 3 Doors Down as you can see the influence of each and every one of these bands within the music of Daughtry.

‘Baptized’ is the bands fourth studio album it also happens to be the most accessible album yet least rock orientated, if you like big in your face catchy songs then you are in for a treat with ‘Baptized’ as the album features 12 sing-a-long anthems and runs for just under 45minutes and has an overall massive radio friendly feel about it.

The album opens with the title track ‘Baptized’ and the song as everything from a banjo being played a big country music vibe and a chorus which has been written with the idea of getting the listener moving as when Chris Daughtry sings out “Take me down by the water, pull me in ‘till I see the light, let me drown in your honey, in your love, I want to be baptized” you can’t help but sing-a-long and move every part of your body along to the beat.

‘Waiting For Superman’ is the lead single to be taken from the album and I feel like it was a bit of crazy move as don’t get me wrong the song is good, it’s catchy it features some insane synths but compared to other songs on the album it really lacks the wow factor.

Luckily things pick up for the pop-tastic ‘Battleships’, the extremely radio friendly ‘I’ll Fight’, the slow paced yet passionate sounding ‘Wild Heart’, the Fall Out Boy sounding ‘Traitor’ and the massive chant-a-long ‘Long Live Rock And Roll’ which features Chris Daughtry singing about everything from Disco To Rock And Roll, Elton John to Kurt Cobain and The Beatles to the Rolling Stones and much more.

There is so much variety running throughout ‘Baptized’ where the band really do give it their all yet the biggest mention has to go to front man Chris Daughtry as he seriously has such an amazing voice where he manages to change his vocal style from one song to the next and whilst doing so he has the knack of instantly grabbing the attention of the listener, well that was at least the case with me.

To some Daughtry may well sound like a confused band who can’t work out if they want to be pop or rock but if you think back to where front man Chris Daughtry first made a name for himself to what him and his band have gone on to achieve since then you will understand that Daughtry have always been about creating rock music yet pop has always had a place in their heart and with ‘Baptized’ they have seriously mastered the knack of mixing both musical styles together as the album is one of those that you can listen to again and again without getting bored due to the sheer addictiveness this talented six piece band have created.
