The debut album ‘Goliath’ from the
Butcher Babies has been a long time coming but
it is finally here and due for release in a couple
of days on Century Media Records, the band formed
back in 2010 and since then have spent a lot of
the time of the road making a name for themselves
and have gained a reputation of playing live shows
in hardly any clothes covered in fake blood and
generally just rocking out.
I will admit that I have never listened to the
music of the Butcher Babies until now and my god
they mean serious business and all you need to
do is listen to the craziness which graces the
album opening track ‘I Smell A Massacre’
the insane instrumental work and dual vocals which
see’s a mixture of sings and screams come
crashing towards you is proper bonkers yet it
works so well and opens the album with an almighty
bang.
‘Magnolia Blvd’ is just as fast paced
and bonkers as the opening track and features
so much going on at once that I am sure it will
leave your head in a slight spin as you take in
the machine gun style instrumental work and once
again the duel vocals from Carla Harvey and Heidi
Shepherd are huge and comes across like a massive
battle.
‘C8H18 (Gasoline) is a big scream-a-long
affair which packs an almighty punch. ‘Grim
Sleeper’ starts off in a real mellow way
but seconds later the song explodes into mayhem
as the brutal sounds of the Butcher Babies really
shine out loud. The album title track ‘Goliath’
has some of the best instrumental work featured.
Whilst the album closer ‘Axe Wound’
starts off with acoustic guitar sounds before
going down a shock rock route full of screams,
chants and heavy metal goodness.
The great thing about the Butcher Babies are that
they are split into two parts you have Jason Klein
on bass, Henry Flury on guitar and Chrissy Warner
on drums who bring out the amazingly brutal instrumental
work throughout the album where things do seriously
get heavy and technical in places and then you
have Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey on vocals
who are a double act not to be messed with as
Heidi Shepherd is one ballsy front lady who seriously
knows how to scream whilst Carla Harvey provides
the more clean cut singing and as a whole the
five piece really have mastered the art of creating
big in your face aggressive music which is equally
as pleasing on the ears.
With ‘Goliath’ the Butcher Babies
have put out one hell of an brutal album and now
they can fully concentrate on taking the metal
scene by storm, if you need some full on aggressive
music in your life then I am sure that the Butcher
Babies will provide the perfect soundtrack here
with ‘Goliath’ as it is a full on
42 music ear bashing listen.
