Anthony Green is the lead vocalist for the band
Circa Survive who have been in the music industry
for 10 years now and over that time have gone
on to release 4 studio album’s and various
different ep’s whilst also touring pretty
much all across the world embarking on their own
headline shows, support shows and festival shows,
when Anthony Green is not busy with Circa Survive
he is still busy in the musical industry working
on his solo material and he has just released
his third solo album ‘Young Legs’.
For ‘Young Legs’ Anthony Green teamed
up with producer Will Yip who he has worked with
before with Circa Survive yet over his time Will
Yip has worked with a diverse range of artists
from Lauryn hill to the Arctic Monkeys so the
duo headed down to Studio 4 Recordings in Pennsylvania
where they worked on the album solidly going out
to create the most dreamy and atmospheric album
of his career and it is safe to say they have
managed exactly what they stepped out to achieve.
‘Young Legs’ features 11 tracks and
runs for just over 40 minutes and the album opens
with ‘Breaker’ a song which happens
to be the first single release from the album
and is a dreamy sounding piano driven number where
Anthony Green really shines with his stand out
vocals which are seriously unlike any other vocalist
I have ever heard.
The album title track ‘Young Legs’
is depressingly beautiful, the song really does
flow in such a sad way but at the same time the
beautiful piano sounds and Anthony Green’s
powerful vocals really are a strong mix and really
helps make the song an extremely listenable number
which is full of emotion.
‘Too Little Too Late’ is a right dreamy
little number where Anthony Green strums his acoustic
guitar and slowly sings throughout. ‘When
You sang To Me’ is easily one of the strongest
tracks on the album and is also the most experimental
as various different soundscapes grace the airwaves
as Anthony Green sings in such a beautiful way
making way for the most accessible moment of the
album. ‘Anytime’ is also very beautiful
sounding and full of random soundscapes whilst
vocally things come across very poppy as Anthony
Green gives out his best vocal performance of
the album.
Lyrically things are quite personal and close
to the heart but are more about what is going
on in the world today with many songs written
about what Anthony Green’s friends and family
have been going through as he sings about his
friend going through a divorce, missing people
who have departed the world far too soon, as well
as even having songs about his young son.
When I first put on ‘Young Legs’ I
didn’t think I would be walking away that
impressed but the album has truly surprised me
and happens to be one of the most emotional sounding
albums I have heard in a long time, it is the
kind of album you put on if you want to chill
out or what a bit of background music as it is
the kind of album you can get into even if you
start listening to it half way through or towards
the end of a track as Anthony Green’s voice
is so powerful and works wonders at grabbing the
listeners attention.
