And Now We're Even are a four piece band from Kingston-Upon-Thames and have
a mixed sound of alternative rock, ska and skate punk which makes up the
sound of their twelve track album, 'Summer With You' which is a digital
only release which proves you can get music out to the world without the
power of a record label.
The band remind me of the start of 2000 when the UK punk and ska scene
was really healthy with bands like Whitmore, Solabeat Alliance, Mixtwich,
Gash and many others dominating the various toilet sized venues up and
down the country. It is good that, ‘And Now We're Even’ are
helping to make the scene healthy again.
'Summer With You' opens up with 'Hunter' which is a great song that has
a fast punk sound with some raw sounding sing a long vocals. 'Stay True,
Stay You' has a pure ska sound throughout with sing a long vocals that
seem to get faster and faster building up to the chorus. The album title
track 'Summer With You' is a fast happy affair.
'Lemonade' is my favourite song on the album and is a pure ska song that
will leave you wanting to skank along and is the perfect sound track for
the summer when the sun is shining on you. 'Skankalicious' is another
fast paced ska song but fails to live up to the “skankiness”
of 'Lemonade', still a good song though. The album closes with 'The Why
In Sorry', a song that’s fast and full of intense guitar solo's
and great constant drumming.
And Now We're Even have produced the perfect album for the summer with
'Summer With You' the album is 50 minutes of fast paced punk mixed along
with ska and is played with passion and full energy and Resheed's vocals
remind me of Tim Armstrong from Rancid in places. The band are already
working on their follow up album, 'Winter Without You' which I’m
sure will be another sing a long treat once released later in the year.
4/5
