It has been a solid three years since Sister released
their debut album ‘Hated’ on Metal
Blade Records and since that time the band have
been hard at work touring across mainland Europe
and the UK with the likes of Hardcore Superstar,
Crashdiet, Fozzy, Wednesday 13 as well as playing
the likes of Sonisphere and Bang Your Head festival
in mainland Europe.
Now Sister are set to start 2014 in style with
the release of their second studio album ‘Disguised
Vultures’ and it seems that their time touring
with fellow shock punk rocker Wednesday 13 has
paid off as both Sister and Wednesday 13 have
so much in common from their black and white gothic
look, the love of horror films and general spooky
things and more importantly the fact that they
like to create similar music as ‘Disguised
Vultures’ is crammed full of songs that
when heard for the first time you wonder if Wednesday
13 is involved in any way.
The album kicks off with ‘My Enemy’
a song which comes in at a ferocious pace for
the first 14 seconds before taking a short breather
before the band get ready again to unleash some
serious noise with riffs coming and going at such
a force as the band lay down the punk rock sounds
they have mastered over the years.
Next up is ‘Sick’ a song which was
originally released as a single towards the end
of 2013 to coincide with the Wednesday 13 tour
and the song is a big fist pumping punk rock song
where you can imagine the bands legion of fans
throwing their fists in the air whilst chanting
along “sick, sick, sick” when the
chorus kicks in.
The album title track ‘Disguised Vultures’
is full of energy and solid instrumental work
as the band go all out laying down massive riffs
and drum beats whilst front man Jamie screams
out “Fire, Fire” over and over again.
‘We Salute ‘Em’ see’s
the band turn the volume up an extra notch or
two as everything becomes bigger louder and more
kick ass whilst also maintaining the melodic pace
that the album has kept up until now.
There is enjoyment to be had from pretty much
every track on the album for example the explosive
start and stop nature of ‘Slay Yourself’
will have you on your feet wanting to cause carnage,
the slow paced nature of ‘Naked’ will
have you singing along word for word as you easily
lap up the words, ‘DMN’ is bound to
bring the mosh pit to life at future live shows
as the song is massive sounding and full of energy,
whilst (Stop The) Revolution’ is easily
the stand out track on the album as it runs heavily
with gang vocals and generally rocks.
The album closes with ‘Please Kill Me’
the song starts off really mellow with an beautiful
guitar intro and from that moment the song really
comes to life full of energy and top class instrumental
work, as the song progresses it starts to go off
track a bit as the vocals dip out and we are treated
to a long running guitar piece which runs for
pretty much 2minutes solid with underlying chants
of “Kill Me” coming and going throughout.
2013 was a fantastic year for Sister and it seems
like 2014 is going to be just as good with the
release of their second studio album ‘Disguised
Vultures’ which is out on Metal Blade Records
on the 21st January and if you are a fan of shock
rock bands like The Murderdolls, Wednesday 13,
The Frankenstein Drag Queens then I am sure that
the new offering from Sister will be exactly what
you are looking for.
