Atlases hail from a small town in Berkshire and
the band are made up of five childhood friends
who decided to form the band back at the start
of 2013 and since then the band have not looked
back and have spent a lot of time touring up and
down the control unleashing their hardcore sounds
and are now ready to release their debut EP ‘Upbringing’
which is due for release on the 20th January 2014.
The EP opens with ‘Betrayer’ and you
are greeted with pounding drum beats, meaty guitar
riffs and aggressive vocals but it happens to
be the way that the song has been arranged and
executed which makes it stand out from other hardcore
bands on the scene as instead of going all out
creating as much noise as you can in the shortest
space of time Atlases have taken the total opposite
approach and really spread the aggression out
where things come at you in a more progressive
way.
‘Secret Keeper’ follows on from the
opening track perfectly with its aggressive nature,
once again the way the band execute things is
technically amazing as the drums, bass and dual
guitar work equally shine but at different points
as the song progresses in a big epic way, vocally
Jack Parsons has a lot of anger to vent and that
he does in a big aggressive yet equally infectious
way.
‘My Testament’ is the song where Jack
Parsons shines the most on the EP as the song
opens with an huge instrumental piece and then
25seconds in the instrumental work takes a slight
back seat as Jack Parsons screams and shouts his
way through the next 35seconds in style before
the instrumental work picks up for the band to
all come together to unleash some fist pumping
powerful sounds for the next couple of minutes.
The aggressive and progressive nature continues
through the rest of the EP with the likes of ‘The
Deepest Dark’, ‘You Dreamer, You Fool’
and EP closer ‘Consume/Deny’ packing
an equally impressive punch as the opening half
of the EP with ‘Consume/Deny’ just
taking the edge as the stand out listen from the
EP as it simply kicks ass.
If you are into bands like Architects, Bring Me
The Horizon etc then I feel that Atlases are right
up your street as the band are heavily influenced
by these bands but instead of copying everything
that these bands do Atlases have clearly taken
a lot of time in the writing and recording process
as they have managed to create a debut EP which
is big, mature, epic, aggressive and pretty damn
fresh sounding.
