Cage The Gods are a new four piece rock band on
the horizon and the band have just been out on
a lengthy tour supporting Northern Ireland rock
gods the Answer and during the tour all I have
heard about Cage The God is positive comments
and now the band have just released their debut
4 track EP ‘Favourite Sin’ and after
listening to it I can clearly see that these comments
are justified as ‘Favourite Sin’ is
a fantastic debut offering.
The EP opens with the title track ‘Favourite
Sin’ which also happens to be the lead single
to be taken from the EP and from start to finish
the band have you wrapped around their little
fingers as they seriously rock their way through
the song with sheer passion and energy in a big
radio friendly infectious way as you can’t
help but hum and tap along to it during the first
listen and sing-a-long word for word after the
second or third listen once the infectious lyrics
are lodged into your brain.
‘From The Start’ is more toned down
and bluesy rock sounding and reminds me slightly
of American blues rockers Black Stone Cherry,
the song is full of solid rhythms and punchy beats
whilst vocalist Peter Comerford really sings his
heart out.
‘Wake Up’ is right up there with the
opening track ‘Favourite sin’ as one
of the best tracks on the EP, the instrumental
arrangements are fantastic as the band lay down
various different guitar riffs and catchy tones
throughout the song and once again the song reminds
me of a big American rock band but this time around
it is Alter Bridge, everything from the instrumental
work right through to the vocals are executed
with excellence.
‘Sacrifice’ see’s the band go
down the acoustic route and it is a good offering
as it shows another side of the band and once
again the vocals from Peter Comerford are just
outstanding. Closing the EP is an original edit
of the opening track ‘Favourite Sin’,
the song is extended and uncut and proves a good
close to the EP as ‘Favourite Sin’
really does have the feel of a song you will want
to listen to over and over again and having it
open and close the album saves you reaching for
the repeat button.
It is clear to see that Cage The Gods are on the
right path to success with their debut EP just
being released and with their debut album also
finished and due for release in early 2014 I feel
that the journey that these guys have just started
is about to get a lot more exciting and 2014 will
be a big year for Cage The Gods, mark my words
on that.
