The Browning are a band I stumbled onto a while
back whilst going through my Mass Effect obsession
and they fit in beautifully, they have an ex singer
from As Blood Runs Black and they like to blend
electronic elements normally associated with dance
and techno music and they infuse it with the dirtiest
of heavy powerful metal riffs and vocals they
can muster up. Their debut album “Burn This
World” was a breath of fresh air in this
day and age as it was new, exciting and downright
refreshing.
Having spun this new album it definitely seems
to me to be a darker album than the last, also
I’ve noticed there is a lot more technicality
and metalcore favouring this time around with
the riffs that are on display. “Type 1A”
solidified that for me because its much bouncier
and had the structure more of a metalcore track
with the chord sequences which I’m not complaining
about it gives it a distinctive presence and isn’t
just part 2 of the first album. I haven’t
bonded as much with and of the songs as I instantly
took to “Standing On The Edge” which
if you’ve been around me the past 2 years
I will have shown you at least 3-5 times as I
fell head over heels with it. They’re definitely
a solid group of songs at the fact there is 13
of them is quite an impressive feature as we’re
definitely getting our money’s worth from
them. Like I said this stuff is certainly darker
in terms of sound with songs like “Planet
Hate”, “Black Hole” and the
extremely impressive piece of music in “Gravedigger”.
What we have then is a band who took a core style,
twisted and manipulated it into something new
and exciting, then took all of that and brought
a whole new different side to it together in 13
tracks and added some technicality in the mix
then boom, you have a follow up album that is
a fantastic piece of work and a great addition
to their growing back catalogue.
