The last few Avril Lavigne albums featured her
ex-husband Deryck Whibley as song writer and producer
so it only makes sense that on her forthcoming
self titled fifth studio album she has her new
husband Chad Kroger behind most of the songs including
her brand new single ‘Let Me Go’.
Musically ‘Let Me Go’ sounds like
an extremely grown up song compared to songs from
Avril Lavigne’s past as the extremely catchy
and bouncy pop sounds have been left behind and
the song comes across sounding like something
you would expect from an Evanescence album with
quite a mature sound yet with a bitter lyrical
edge. It takes a good minute or so before Chad
Kroger’s vocals come in but when they do
Lavigne and Kroger take it in turns to lay down
their vocals which complement each other beautifully,
lyrically it’s hard not to think that the
song is about Lavigne’s ex Deryck Whibley
as Lavigne sings “I’m breaking free
from these memories gotta let it go, just let
it go, i’ve said goodbye, set it all on
fire, gotta let it go, just let it go” whilst
Kroger sings “You came back to find I was
gone and that place is empty, like the hole that
was left in me, like we were nothing at all”.
A few years back you would never think that Avril
Lavigne and Chad Kroger would hook up to make
music let alone have a relationship and get married
but it is safe to say when it comes to making
music they gel really well and ‘Let Me Go’
is going to keep her fans entertained until her
fifth album drops in early November.
