Black Spiders - The Savage LandBlack Spiders – The Savage Land

These days the most popular way for bands to fund their new albums is going through Pledge Music a platform where fans of the band pledge money for special things such as a signed copy of the album, limited edition merchandise, the band playing at their house, their name included in the album booklet etc and this is the route which the Black Spiders went down for album number 2 ‘The Savage Land’ which has just been released.

Now I have listened to the band’s debut album ‘Sons Of The North’ many times and also seen them on the live circuit a handful of times and each and every time I have had the pleasure of seeing and listening to the Black Spiders I have walked away with a smile on my face as the band are all about knocking out big dirty riffs and creating as much sound as possible but executing it in such an enjoyable way and it seems like the Black Spiders have stuck to the same formula for album number 2 ‘The Savage Land’ as the album is a big tub-thumping affair.

The album opens with ‘Knock You Out’ and the song opens in a comical way with a voice over saying “let there be drums”, with the drumming coming in moments later, the voice over then says “let there be guitars” with the guitars coming in within a split seconds and then moments later the voice over says “Let the mayhem ensue” and that is exactly what happens for the duration of the song and album as the band go all out creating insane noise.

The lead single to be taken from the album is ‘Balls’ and the song starts off sounding like something from the Black Sabbath back catalogue but after about 50seconds the song picks up its pace and becomes a big fist pumping anthem, the riffs are huge, the drums are constant and the vocals are there to be sung at the top of your lungs as you chant “You gotta have balls to be a man like me” alongside Pete Spiby.

The likes of ‘Young Tongues’, ‘Trouble’, ‘Teenage Knife Gang’ and album closer ‘Sleepy Demon’ have all be written with the mosh pit in mind because as soon as the opening notes of each and every one of these songs mayhem is going to happen in the mosh pit as fans of the band open up circle bits and let out their built up aggression the sounds that are battering their ears at 100 miles per hour.

It is safe to say that Rock is alive and kicking and Britain is the breeding ground for it at the moment as there are so many talented bands in Britain topping each sub genre of alternative music and it is safe to say that the Black Spiders have the crown when it comes to big in your face dirty metal music and if they keep creating kick arse albums like this then no one will ever get their crown.
