Crossfaith are a Japanese metalcore act, that
fact in itself peaked my interest. They use electronic
sounds to add something to their music which has
led to them being classed as a sub genre of Electronicore
with the likes of The Browning, Dead By April,
Motionless In White and many more, they have been
getting a lot of press from the likes of Metal
Hammer and Kerrang as of late which again adds
to the interest I have towards them. The band
has 3 studio albums to date and this EP is fresh
for 2012 but it’s 8 tracks long which to
me is a tiny bit long to be classed as an EP but
never the less the more material they want to
give us the better!
After a few listens the best way for me to describe
their sound would be to take electronic components
such as the likes of The Browning, The Gazette
and Bring Me The Horizon have done in their music,
combined with the metalcore style of early Atreyu
(I say early because that’s when they were
heaviest and because the vocals here are very
reminiscent of The Curse album). “Monolith"
is one of the best ways to kick off any form of
release heavy and catchy, hell all of it is! Groovy
as hell, the electronics flow through your body
and really forces itself into your muscles causing
spasm’s that others could perceive as dancing.
So there you have it, an English singing Japanese
metalcore act who in a day and age where metalcore
is struggling to reach the heights it once was
have pushed the boundaries and I will outright
say they are destined for stardom. With other
forerunners of the Japanese scene like The Gazette
and especially Dir En Grey neither of which speak
much English I believe Crossfaith having that
under their belts can really find global following
much easier.
