New Vegas “post-hardcore” group have
returned with album number 4. The way I would
describe Escape The Fate to anyone is that they
take the fundamental metalcore structure and add
some whiney vocals and really poppy sounding soft
riffs over the crunchy backing, which is a rising
trend and can be found in other acts like Blessthefall,
Falling In Reverse, Pierce The Veil and many hundreds
more. Their first album I thought was an ok start
to a career “Dying is Your Latest Fashion”
had a few catchy numbers but I never really went
back to it, follow up “This War is Ours”
was better and I do still listen to from time
to time, then came 2010’s “Escape
The Fate" which even though is a complete
rip off is actually my favourite, they ripped
off bands like Bring Me The Horizon and Linkin
Park amongst others but because I like those bands
I actually liked the material more than the other
albums.
Knowing all that it nearly completely blew me
away when title track and album opener “Ungrateful”
kicked in as that was extremely heavy, in fact
up to “You’re Insane” I’m
totally intoxicated with this stuff as it’s
still got some of the fundamental features that
the genre requires but it’s much more dynamic
than before and has much more impressive musical
components. “Chemical Love” is a really
strange ballad-esque song that really got me thinking
as well that clearly there is much more to this
band than I personally first thought there could
ever be, chalk “Picture Perfect” into
that as well as another fantastic ballad. after
that “Risk It All" through to closing
track "Fire It Up" are all huge chorus
filled anthems with "One For The Money"
having one of those thick infectious riffs.
I must say, I feel foolish when I was in my earlier
teens of how prejudice I was against certain bands
for the way their music sounded or the statement
they made, I mean I had felt like that about this
band for their first 3 albums but it just goes
to show my constant need to give every band a
new chance with each new album pays off as this
is one that I will purchase to add to my tremendous
CD collection.
