I have been enjoying the music of Attention Thieves
for a couple of years now and was even impressed
to see their energetic set at Hit The Deck Festival
back in April, shortly after the festival they
went on to release their amazing single ‘Take
A Bow’ and now they are gearing up for the
release of their new 6 track EP ‘Hard Truths’.
‘Hard Truths’ opens with the tasty
sounding ‘Prove You Wrong’ which wastes
no time kicking arse with an outstanding guitar
intro where the constant drumming comes in moments
later before front man Alex Green comes in laying
down his gritty sounding vocals in a slight angry
manner, as the song progresses it gets better
and better as the band do incredible well jamming
together and generally creating a song which is
so big and pleasing on the ears.
‘I Swear’ is yet another beastly track
it is the kind of song you want to listen to in
your car where the volume is up loud the windows
are wide open and you are carefully tapping your
steering wheel to the spot on drum beats whilst
bopping your feet to the infectious sounds and
screaming along to the vocals of Alex Green whilst
ever so carefully doing your best to drive to
your usual standards.
‘Why Do I Care At All’ is an infectious
song from start to finish, the instrumental work
from the band are on top form again whilst Alex
Green drops the gruff vocals and goes for more
straight forward infectious singing with a few
screams thrown in for good measures which are
backed up by gang vocals from the band.
When ‘Dead In The Water’ get’s
going it becomes a massive sounding song with
soaring vocals and big constant drum beats with
a big angry vibe coming through the speakers as
the song progresses to its climax.
‘To The Rats’ starts off in quite
a laid back way compared to the rest of the EP
with minimal sounding instrumental work and slow
paced chant-a-long vocals from Alex Green which
see’s him chant “Where are you going
now, did you stop taking care of yourself, you
look burnt out, you’re looking frail”
before the whole band come in for the explosive
chorus which is bound to cause a scene in the
mosh pit at future shows.
The EP closes with the recent single release ‘Take
A Bow’ and it is the perfect way to close
the EP as the song features everything from big
build ups, classic break downs, standout drum
beats, driving guitar riffs, clean cut vocals,
angry sounding vocals and a chorus which was written
for thousands of people to scream at the top of
their lungs.
Despite all the up’s and down’s Attention
Thieves have faced since they set of in the music
industry back in 2009 all the hard work is finally
paying off for them and ‘Hard Truths’
is the release that is going to get this impressive
four piece the attention, praise and recognition
that the truly deserve.
