It’s weird to think that Scouting For Girls
burst onto the scene in 2007 with their self titled
debut album went on to release their second studio
album ‘Everybody Wants to Be on TV’
in 2010 and then released their third studio album
‘The Light Between Us’ only last year
and have now just released their ‘Greatest
Hits’, for a band that have been on the
scene for 6 years, dominated the charts from day
one with their poppy summer anthems and completed
various sold out tours across the UK as well as
playing various festivals and forest shows across
the country I kind of feel like it is too soon
to be dropping a greatest hits as they have so
much more to give as a band.
The Scouting For Girls ‘Greatest Hits’
has been released in two formats there is the
standard format for £7.00 which features
1 disc and 15 tracks and then there is the Deluxe
edition for £13 which features 2 disc and
30 tracks which features the 15 tracks from the
main ‘Greatest Hits’ release and various
rare b-sides and previously unreleased tracks
so for the extra £5 the deluxe version is
well worth a purchase especially if you are a
hardcore fan of the band.
‘Greatest Hits’ features 13 classic
Scouting For Girls songs spanning their 3 albums
and I have to say that it is good having the likes
of ‘She’s So Lovely’, ‘Elvis
Ain’t Dead’, ‘This Ain’t
A Love Song’, ‘Famous’, ‘Silly
Song’, ‘Love How It Hurts’ and
‘Summertime In The City’ all bundled
together on one album and also when listening
to the ‘Greatest Hits’ it’s
good to see that Scouting For Girls have been
true to themselves and their fans from day one
as it is clear to see that their music and style
has not changed much throughout the years as the
‘Greatest Hits’ is pretty much a big
album full of summer anthems.
Two new tracks complete the ‘Greatest Hits’
with ‘Millionaire’ and ‘Make
That Girl Mine’ being bundled right at the
end of the album, ‘Millionaire’ is
more of a toned down offering from previous Scouting
For Girls material and in my eyes is the weakest
song they have ever released, don’t get
me wrong the song does get going towards the end
and becomes quite fun but if you compare it to
their previous singles this really has nothing
on them. which makes me wonder if they are quickly
running out of ideas and releasing this ‘Greatest
Hits’ whilst they have time to think about
the future of the band.
I have liked Scouting For Girls right from the
start and really hope this release does not spell
the end of the band but we all know that they
nearly split up a couple of years ago due to the
pressure of creating album number 3 so I am really
hoping that this is just a crafty label move to
give the band some much needed time with album
number 4.
As ‘Greatest Hits’ go this is up there
with the best as Scouting For Girls are a band
all about catchy singles however I do feel that
the timing for this release could not of come
at a worse time.
