Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Gus G formed Firewind
back in 1998 to showcase his own material and
within a couple of years the band become a full
on project and since then Firewind have gone on
to release 7 studio albums and various different
compilations and live albums with their most recent
‘Apotheosis Live 2012’ just being
released.
If you have been a fan of Firewind since they
formed or over the past couple of years then you
pretty much know what to expect from ‘Apotheosis
Live 2012’, if you haven’t then this
really is the perfect time to get into Firewind
as the live album features 17 tracks and it pretty
much acts like a greatest hits compilation but
captured live and everything is there from powerful
songs, banter between the band and the crowd and
also screams from the crowd to remind you that
you are indeed listening to a live album.
It is safe to say that Gus G is a guitar god and
you just have to listen to seconds of any of the
tracks on offer here to see that as throughout
the whole live album Gus G is at the top of his
game laying down some outstanding riffs the likes
of ‘Head Up High’, ‘Wall Of
Sound’, ‘World On Fire’ are
all perfect examples of this as the whole band
put’s everything into their performance
but it is when Gus G lays down some breathtaking
solos within each and every one of these tracks
that you really start to appreciate the technicality
of Firewind.
‘Apotheosis Live 2012’ is easily going
to go down in the Firewind history books as vocalist
Apollo Papathanasio has since left the band with
Kelly Sundown Carpenter taking his place and I
feel that the fans who have been with the band
since the start will regard this compilation as
the perfect send off for Apollo.
As far as live albums go ‘Apotheosis Live
2012’ really does hit the mark and hearing
the likes of ‘Mercenary Man’, ‘Glorious’,
‘Few Against Many’, ‘Losing
My Mind’ and ‘Falling To Pieces’
captured live is enough to remind anyone why they
have shared their time and love with Firewind
over the years.
