Falling in Reverse - Fashionably LateFalling in Reverse – Fashionably Late

In the 29 years Falling in Reverse Ronnie Radke has been on this planet he has had a pretty hectic life which saw him get in trouble with the law from an early age he then went on to front Escape The Fate for their 2006 debut album ‘Dying Is Your Latest Fashion’ but after this things started to go downhill for Radke when he was involved in an altercation in Las Vegas which resulted in the death of an 18 year old which then resulted in Radke being sentenced to prison for two years and also being kicked out of Escape The Fate who are now going from strength to strength with their new front man Craig Mabbitt.

When Radke returned from prison back in 2010 he wasted no time getting back to doing what he loves doing most and released the debut Falling In Reverse album ‘The Drug In Me Is You’, now 2 years later Falling In Reverse are back with their second studio album ‘Fashionably Late’ and my god it is one interesting listen, seriously on first listen you won’t know what has hit you as the album is truly bonkers, one minute you feel like you are listening to a hardcore album, the next a pop album and then a dub step album and then all the random talking meets rap vocals throughout various songs is added to the mix to confuse things even more.

The album opens with ‘Champion’ a song which opens with chugging guitar riffs and scream vocals, yet 40 seconds in the song goes pop with melodic vocals coming in and a big catchy chorus which has huge gang vocals of “woaaaaah woaaaah”, as the song progresses it repeats this motion of beafy guitar, screamo vocals and then a big pop chorus but as the song reaches the 2minute mark things change even further as Radke let’s rip and lays down what feels like 200 words in the matter of seconds as he raps till his heart’s content and this is followed on by an extreme burst of instrumental energy and death metal screams.

‘Bad Girls Club’ opens with some girls screaming and having a chit chat and moments later Radke’s poppy vocals come in as the song goes down a big synth pop route with Radke singing about how he has bad luck with girls, musically the song is very cheesy sounding kind of in the way that Metro Stations ‘Shake It’ was cheesy however one listen of the song it will be lodged in your head for days to come as let’s face it Falling In Reverse know how to pen irritatingly catchy songs, lyrically the song is mad with Radke singing about Twitter, Facebook, Google and even spelling out the C word which so many people find offensive.

‘Rolling Stone’ leaves you one minute thinking you are listening to Good Charlotte and then the next Cannibal Corpse and then Skrillex as the song really does change from the one extreme to the other in the matter of seconds and this is what makes Falling In Reverse interesting yet completely bonkers at the same time.

The two singles to be released from the album so far are the title track ‘Fashionably Late’ and ‘Alone’ and both tracks feature the big mix of synths, pop vocals, screamo vocals, rap vocals and instrumental work which changes with what style the vocals are in at any one moment, lyrically both songs are poorly written with the title track talking about Facebook again and meeting up with friends, whilst the later of the two tracks touches on everything from Gucci, Charlie Sheen, Pampers, Sex and breaking peoples neck whilst also name checking the band.

‘Fashionably Late’ features 12 tracks and runs for just under 50minutes and due to the many different music styles featured within and the poorly written lyrics it is safe to call the album a marmite album as you are either going to love it or hate it, musically you have heard everything on offer before but never this mashed up whilst lyrically you know your baby brother or sister could do a better job with the empty space in their colouring book and caryola crayon, but that’s not to say that ‘Fashionably Late’ is not worth a listen as I can see this becoming many people’s guilty pleasure.
