One of the UK’s most promising new progressive
extreme metal acts release their debut full studio
album “Disclosure”, from what I’ve
been finding through my research these guys have
had this release in the pipeline for the last
year or so and it was thought this might never
see the light of day due to the line up changes
that were frequenting the group, but eventually
with a new vocalist they managed to get it down
and here it is!
The material falls into the middle ground for
those who love a bit of technicality in their
music but also for those who prefer things to
stay on the simple side of the spectrum as there
is a root structure to every song making them
easy to follow but dotting assorted little bits
and bobs here and there to spice the whole thing
up; “The Escapist Notion” and “From
Vanity To Utility” are great at painting
a picture with the optimum use of their distinctive
edge put to full use, title track “Disclosure”
as well makes for a lighter yet still just as
dominating listen. Don’t get me wrong though
you have to get past the first 2 songs “Esoteric
Agenda” and “Lower The Populace”
as they do feel a bit too overcomplicated and
it comes off in the sound (in all fairness the
first time you listen to it they all do sound
this way).
I will admit it took me a few listens to get into
it as it does with most technical music as I feel
I’m just being bombarded with beats and
tones as opposed to being eased into things but
once I’d spun it a few times I eased myself
in and was able to find the beauty in the craftsmanship,
where actually on the surface to people being
introduced to the it the first time it can seem
like a complete mesh of distortion and licks there
is actually melody and tight structure, you grow
to not only like it but love it, you have to give
it a real chance though to get in there.
