Fall Out Boy - Save Rock And RollFall Out Boy – Save Rock And Roll

The return of Fall Out Boy was one of the worst kept secrets in Rock And Roll as we all knew that Fall Out Boy would be back at some point but the main question was when, but then reports kept cropping up about members of Fall Out Boy being spotted together and various other artists hanging with them in the studio and then on the 4th February Fall Out Boy released an statement letting everyone know what they already knew that it was official they were back together and working on a new album and within seconds they premiered their comeback single ‘ My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)’ which was met with mixed but in general a lot of praise as Fall Out Boy came back with a bang.

Fall Out Boy have now released their comeback album ‘Save Rock And Roll’ the album features 11 tracks and runs for just over 40minutes, it also features various different guest musicians such as Foxes, Courtney Love, Big Sean and Elton John, yes I did just mentioned Fall Out And Boy and Elton John at the same time and amazingly the team up works extremely well.

‘Save Rock And Roll’ is a lot different sounding from their last album ‘Folie a Deux’ and pretty much any of their past material to be honest, but then were you really expecting Fall Out Boy to come back sounding the same after a couple of years away from the scene? This time around fall Out Boy are sounding more mature and more daring, experimental and heavier sounding as they rock out with big riffs, bouncy bass lines, synths and a collection of specials guests that you would never expect Fall Out Boy to team up with.

The album kicks off with ‘The Phoenix’ a song which is extremely ballsy sounding compared to previous Fall Out Boy material as Patrick stump shouts out “Put on your war paint” within the opening moments of the song, as the song get’s going you get the feeling that Fall Out Boy are back in a strong way and that they are not going to let anyone get in their way this time as they lay down a solid track which is going to leave you singing along whilst throwing your fists in the air for the best part of 4minutes.

‘My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)’ is the lead single from the album and just like the opening track it is a ballsy track and for the 3minute duration of the song you will be debating in your mind if you like the song or not but after a couple of listens your mind will be made up as you realise that Fall Out Boy have released the perfect come back single.

The strongest sounding track on the album is easily ‘Where Did The Party Go’ the song is one that hardcore Fall Out Boy fans can easily relate to and will instantly respect and sing-a-long to, from the start Pete Wentz lays down some killer basslines whilst Patrick Stump is on top form letting out the strongest vocal performance of the album as he sings “And all the boys are smoking menthols, girls are getting back rubs, I will drift to you if you make yourself shake fast enough, my old aches become new again, my old friends become exes again” before then blasting out ‘Oh, where did the party go? We’re ending it on the phone, i’m not gonna go home alone” in such style, lyrically the song may seem a bit cheesy but it is so going to be a summer anthem for the legion of Fall Out Boy fans and it has future single written all over it.

‘Just One Yesterday’ is a beautiful sounding song which features Foxes on guest vocals and when Patrick Stump and Foxes go for it during the chorus you just know that the team up is spot on. ‘The Mighty Fall’ features Big Sean on guest vocals, in general the song is pretty good until Big Sean’s vocals come in as the vocals he lays down are very unnecessary and adds nothing positive to the song.

The later part of the album features a good diverse selection of songs such as ‘Young Volcanoes’ which reminds me very much of ‘What A Catch, Donnie’ which happened to be the last single Fall Out Boy released back in 2009 before they went on hiatus. Next up is ‘Rat A Tat’ a song which features Courtney Love the song is quite rocky sounding and for the best part sounds pretty awesome yet the after a few listens the constant shouts of “Rat A Tat, Rat A Tat, Rat A Tat” is guaranteed to get on your nerves. The album closes with the title track ‘Save Rock And Roll’ the song features Elton John as a guest and on paper you really wouldn’t put Fall Out Boy and Elton John together and you defiantly wouldn’t expect the team up to work but surprisingly it does and the song sounds fantastic and is easily the perfect finish to the album and one that I am sure is going to help make fans of both artists respect the other a hell of a lot more than before.

Overall ‘Save Rock And Roll’ is quite a diverse sounding album by fall Out Boy standards and the more time you put into listening to the album the more enjoyment you will find within it, there are a few questionable moments such as the “Rat A Tat” chorus and the Big Sean team up but on the whole ‘Save Rock And Roll’ is a brilliant album and more importantly it’s just good to know that Fall Out Boy are back and hopefully for a long time.
