Bring Me The Horizon - SempiternalBring Me The Horizon – Sempiternal

It’s no secret, I have always a love-hate relationship with BMTH; when I was younger I hated them simply because of the attitude of their diehard fans and the actions of the band themselves, I let it get that far that when I actually heard a few songs that I liked I denied it to the death, so here it is whilst I may not be a huge fan and some of their songs I actively despise, a fair few are ridiculously infectious and impressive.

I must say I’ve been completely thrown off with this; it was nothing that I would ever have associated with this band prior. They started off an aggressive hardcore band and then followed it up with a huge amount of programming experimenting which paid off, that lead off into another extremely aggressive collection of tracks, so from that we’ve lead onto a very ominous toned down melodic mash of tunes. I’m completely taken aback; they’ve played a risky move because this kind of material can work into their set really well as a sing-a-long interlude right in the middle, “Can You Feel My Heart” as a prime example. Don’t get me wrong their essence is still present with songs like “Sleepwalking” which at times is like an untamed beast but is still so different.

When “Shadow Moses” hit I felt myself loosen up a bit as I thought “finally a song that is true to their career” but even that still lacks the aggression that past material, not to say that that’s a bad thing, in fact seeing as they started this as teenagers it seems that their music is maturing with them, just the types of material “Seen It All Before” and “And The Snakes Start To Sing” baffle me but whilst they’re interesting now as they are different it isn’t what I would be in the mood for if I had chose BMTH so that novelty might die young but we’ll see.

Right to sum up; absolutely loved the likes of “Shadow Moses”, “Sleepwalking”, “Anti-Vist” and “The House Of Wolves”, I really got into them and as heavy songs they have the complexity and groove infused aggression that really peaks my attention. Songs that I feel will start to get on my tits are “Can You Feel My Heart”, “Hospital For Souls” and “Seen It All Before”, just those 3 and I loved the other 7 tracks so statistically with me this is a hit, all be it a rather baffling one and the more I listen to it the more I love it.

4/5
