These Wolverhampton based sleazy rockers and I
have crossed paths on more than one occasion,
when I used to be quite up to date on the local
scene and when I was following Ascendance around
showing support I’ve stood through my fair
share of Diamond Lil sets and as of yet they have
never disappointed me. They really play the part
of a youthful glam rock act sent from the past,
imagine Motley Crue in their 20’s.
“Bottom Of A Glass” kicks us off in
style, bouncy and upbeat which lets be fair is
the best way to start anything off, aggressive
and powerful both lyrically and then the music
matches the intensity. “Sex Injuries”
pushes through with this swanky beat and twangy
tone; it’s one of those songs that makes
you pull a face like your sucking on a lemon whilst
gyrating your groin all over the place playing
air guitar like a rock ‘n’ roll zombie.
It’s more like a hard rock style but with
a helping of sleaze and groove melting through,
yeah I think that’s a fitting description
especially when the title track “Misfits
of Society” has a crunchy tone but still
fits the checklist of elements needed for a glam
track.
There is even a ballad included on the EP (“Beautiful
Nowhere”)! Wasn’t expecting that,
it’s odd though that it sounds like a proper
old school ballad which could come from the likes
of Elton John with the ominous violin that pushes
through from the background from time to time,
that is until the guitars kick in and the powerful
distorted rock side dramatically erupts, fantastic
stuff. Well what can I say I’m extremely
impressed with it but am I surprised that I like
it so much? Not at all, their live set really
does match their writing ability, let’s
have your album next lads and when your famous
remember to send me free stuff, I’ve been
with you a long time haha.
