Since they formed back in 1991 The Counting Crows
have had a very successful career, they have released
6 studio albums have toured the world over many
times getting high praise due to the fact that
no two Counting Crows shows are ever the same
as the band like to mix their set lists up and
also like the change the arrangements and sounds
of their songs whilst on the live circuit, over
the years The Counting Crows have put out a few
live albums and are now set to release a new 15
track live album compilation by the name of ‘Echoes
Of The Outlaw Roadshow’ and the release
of the album coincides with the bands mid April
UK tour which see’s them return to the UK
for the first time in over 4 years.
Now hardcore fans of the Counting Crows will know
that their last studio album ‘Underwater
Sunshine’ was released only a year ago and
was a full on covers album with 17 less known
songs from the 1960’s to current times being
covered so a lot of people might think that the
Counting Crows are being lazy releasing ‘Echoes
Of The Outlaw Roadshow’ but I am sure that
after one listen of the album their minds will
be changing as the album showcases just how solid
sounding the Counting Crows are live and also
how the fans can’t get enough of their heroes.
‘Echoes Of The Outlaw Roadshow’ mainly
focuses on the songs from their last album ‘Underwater
Sunshine’ but at the same time they also
manage to include songs from their older albums
that have never featured on a live album before
to give their fans a truly amazing new live package
that is well worth the money.
The album opens with a cover of Bob Dylan’s
‘Girl From The North Country’ is proves
to be a good opening track but it is the bands
epic sounding 1994 single ‘Round Here’
which really brings the album to life as front
man Adam Duritz has you in the palm of his hands
with his unique yet wonderful vocals and well
written lyrics which tell a solid story of a man
who leaves people behind in his life in the hope
of finding himself.
The rest of the album breezes past mainly due
to the fact that no song on the album can really
live up to the length and epicness of ‘Round
Here’, yet there is a lot of enjoyment to
have as the Counting Crows play the likes of ‘Four
Days’, ‘Hospital’, ‘Start
Again’, ‘I Wish I Was A Girl’,
‘Sundays’, ‘Rain King’
and many other great songs.
If you are yet to see the Counting Crows live
then I really do recommended that you give ‘Echoes
Of The Outlaw Roadshow’ a listen as the
album is fantastic, it may not include all the
big Counting Crows singles that everyone has been
raving about over the years but it does feature
the Counting Crows doing what they do best mixing
up their back catalogue captured on the live circuit
in such a solid way.
