Kamikaze Test Pilots - Kamikaze Test PilotsKamikaze Test Pilots – Kamikaze Test Pilots

Zimbabwe rooted metal heads Kamikaze Test Pilots have been on the scene for 8 years now and have finally got around to releasing their first ever full length studio album, whilst the 2 founding members are brothers from Zimbabwe the band wasn’t formed until they emigrated to the United Kingdom . One thing I must say is that I would dare anybody to try to find themselves bored with the material, there is so many twists and turns within every song that I never thought possible within a 3 minute timeframe. Highly drawn influences from Middle Eastern metal heads System of a Down as well as at times that groovy side of Clutch and flamenco-esque techniques there is much more to these guys than one may assume.

“Dinosaur” is a tasty little bugger fluctuating in tempo throughout the duration and using that to its full advantage, heavy as hell as well in a twangy way which is something I wasn’t quite prepared for. They certainly like to push that cultured edge into their music which is at its highest presence in the vocal style but also pushes through in the way that System of a Down’s does, with the tones and techniques in the music see “HappySlapper” and “Patrick” for the heaviest audible examples if you want a clearer picture. In all fairness there is enough variety to the point that most rock and metal fans could probably find something they’d like, be it “Kumusha” with its African drum style and slightly softer yet bouncy approach, the heavier tracks already mentioned or the acoustic ballad “Betterway”.

I can’t really find fault with this collection of songs, I mean I don’t see it becoming my new favourite album but I couldn’t point out to you any specific faults or otherwise. Hell give yourself a decent 45 minutes and give this a whirl for yourself, whilst I might not have fallen head over heels in love with it even though I think its brilliantly structured that doesn’t mean that many of you might not be KTP fans waiting to emerge.

4/5
